Looking for a good Easter brunch recipe? Try this buttermilk-blueberry breakfast cake recipe. It is DELICIOUS and it calls for fresh lemon zest…which I’m convinced is one of the best scents in the world. Quick tip – I actually use frozen blueberries when I make this and it’s still delicious, but I can’t wait to try it with fresh berries this summer. You’ll be glad that you tried it!

make your own sherbet freezes…
We’ve had unseasonably warm weather in Missouri and these Freezes have been a perfect quick treat for Grayson after an afternoon of playing outside. They are super quick to make and MUCH cheaper to make at home. You’ll need 2 ingredients: Sprite (or the Wal-mart generic version) and any flavor of sherbet.
I make my Freezes in a blender to make them come together faster.
You might also want a cute little helper!
The steps are easy:
1. Add several scoops of sherbet to your blender. We used 4 scoops for 2 1/2 Freezes.
2. Add enough Sprite to cover your sherbet. Blend and add more Sprite until it reaches the consistency you like.
3. Pour it in a “fancy” glass, add a straw, and enjoy.
Have you ever been to Braum’s? What’s your favorite warm weather treat?

Canaveral, Franchise, Governor, Hoedown, Lavanderia, Lobster Two, Pea Lovey Dovey, Pea Quinny, Sail
Do you have any "go to" fonts that you use a lot? Leave a comment with the name!

guest bathroom reveal…finally!
February’s 12 in 12 project is finally complete and ready for it’s big reveal. Let’s take a quick look at what this bathroom looked like in October 2011 when we first laid eyes on it next to a picture of the “remodeled” look from October 2011. We removed the header above the tub, the spindly half wall next to the sink, and the crazy wooden “box light” above the sink, and painted the vanity and storage cabinet white. Along with removing ALL.OF.THE.WALLPAPER and painting it, the bathroom looked a lot nicer but was still a little plain.
I painted the space with Benjamin Moore’s Bird’s Egg, which I love. It’s a fresh blue without being baby blue. It definitely opened up the space and make it look larger.
The letter hooks were moved down a bit to allow Grayson to hang up his own towels. Moving the hooks also opened up a space to add this fabulous bathroom art by Paper Llamas.
These prints were in my original inspiration post. Erin of Paper Llamas contacted me about sending me a few prints to try out for myself and also a few for YOU! Look for a giveaway soon!
After selling our cabinet, we had some space for shelving. I originally thought I would put some floating shelves here but stumbled upon some unfinished brackets at Lowes. With some help from my handy husband, we made 3 shelves that were a perfect fit for our space for less than $40. The shelves still need a little work in the decorating department, but that will come soon.
Another Paper Llamas print hangs by the vanity with a great reminder to brush your teeth. I took down the old towel ring and plan to replace it with a hook.
Don’t you love what a little paint can do to brighten up a room? Have you refreshed a room in your house with a fresh coat of paint lately?

pinterest test kitchen: chubby hubby truffles
Do you pin recipes? I have a confession to make…I have 185 pins on my Recipe board on Pinterest. Some of these have made it into our dinner rotation and others have been just okay. I haven’t had any Pinterest recipe “fails” yet but several of my friends (and a few bloggers) have. I thought it would be fun to start a series called Pinterest Test Kitchen…actual recipes from Pinterest that I try out in my own kitchen to see if they are a success or a big, old fail.
The first recipe was this:
We had a little Bachelor Finale Party last night so I thought these would be the perfect snack to bring…and let me tell you, they were DELICIOUS! One of the college girls described them as Take 5 Truffles. Have you ever had a Take 5 bar? They are deliciously similar!
My sweet little kitchen helper crushed up the pretzels for me and helped mix the “filling” ingredients in the Kitchen Aid mixer. The recipe suggests you mix the ingredients in a bowl, but use your mixer…so much easier!
Anytime I make a recipe using peanut butter this is what I see…our dog LOVES peanut butter and has supersonic hearing. When the peanut butter jar opens, Raleigh comes running! Does this happen in your house??
A few more suggestions:
- The original recipe makes 18 truffles…I doubled it for our party (and to have some extra for a dinner we’re hosting tonight) and the recipe doubled beautifully.
- I used a cookie scoop to form the truffles rather than rolling them into balls. This gave them a flat bottom to sit on and went a lot faster than rolling!
- Instead of melting chocolate chips (and mixing them with shortening), I happened to have some chocolate almond bark in my pantry. This worked great to dip the truffles in and dried fast!
- To drizzle the peanut butter over the tops of the finished truffles, I melted 3 tablespoons of peanut butter in a Wilton squeeze bottle. It made it EASY to drizzle!
This recipe gets 5 stars in my Pinterest Test Kitchen…it’s easy, delicious, and great for a group!

Speaking of showing some new colors, I love this desk redo over at BridgeyWidgey! She took a $20 thrift store desk and turned it into this beautiful piece for her office!

We are slowly entering the Lego craze at our house…Grayson especially loves the mini figures. I love this golf-ball-holder turned mini fig storage from Being Brook. I’m now on the lookout for one at my local thrift stores!

You will never guess what these cute boxes started out as…plain, old cardboard boxes! They definitely rival the cute (but expensive) canvas storage bins from PB Kids!

I will definitely be trying my hand at this carrot cake recipe by Mique over at Thirty Handmade Days…it sounds delicious!

Is anyone else ready for Spring? We have had such a mild winter, so it seems silly, but I have Spring fever! Here are a few “springy” ideas from around the blogs this week:

Don’t you love this beautiful, simple St. Patrick’s Day mantel? The painted “rainbow” of boards is such a cool statement that could apply to a lot of different seasons just by changing the paint colors.

Here’s the cute Lucky printable by LandeeSee LandeeDo that she featured on her mantel.

questions and answers…
I often have questions asked in the comments and although I try to reply back to each one, some slip through the cracks or don’t have an e-mail attached so I can’t reply. So, I thought I’d answer a few recent questions in this post…
Roxie asked: Hi I love your idea! But what do the numbers mean? Is it 1 inch thickness X 6 ft tall x 8 inches wide? Your help will be greatly appreciated. (on Ruler Growth Chart: Pottery Barn Knock Off)
Roxie, you’re right! The wood is labeled 1 inch thick, 8 inches wide, and 6 feet tall…except those aren’t the exact measurements. Did you know that the measurements that lumber is labeled by when it’s sold aren’t the finished measurements? A 1x8 is actually about 3/4 of an inch by 7 and 1/4 inches. It has something to do with the measurement taken when it’s rough cut (when the lumber is cut from the logs) versus when the lumber has been dried and planed. Crazy, huh? So if you’re needing precise measurements for a project, be sure to take that into account when you’re purchasing your lumber! Just some interesting (and random!) facts from the daughter of a man who owns a lumber company. :)
Meghan, Ali, Cathy, SLP, and several other have asked: I love this printable!! I'm going to use it in our baby's nursery!!! Is it only 8x10 or can I print it 8.5x11??…This is one of my favorite songs and bible verses. Can I get a 12x12 version of it?…so beautiful... either the way you have written it or as a direct biblical quote... it is awesome either way... is there any way to do it in a 5 x7 size? thanks so much!..and downloaded it... is there a way to change the colors on the edge? (on {blessings} printable...)
I get LOTS of requests to customize my printables for readers. I’ve decided to open up any printables for customization for a small fee for my time. If you’d like a custom size or color, please send me an e-mail (517creations@gmail.com) and I’d love to work with you!
Jessica and Welcome to Our Story asked: I also love the ruler and the ABCs. Any chance you found out where they're from?…Hi, I think the ruler is awesome, but I’m also really interested in the ABC/animal pictures on the wall in your playroom. I’d love to do something like that in our nursery. Would you mind telling me how you did it...did you buy them like that or print pictures yourself? How did you attach them to the wall? thanks so much! (on Ruler Growth Chart: Pottery Barn Knock Off)
I found these flash cards at Michael's in the scrapbooking section. With a coupon, they only ended up being a little over $4! Amazon also sells these if you're interested! They are super cute, with relatively muted colors, and awesome animal facts on the back!
Given my "decorating ADD", I knew that I didn't want these to be a totally permanent fixture in the playroom, but I wanted them to stay put until it was time for me to take them down. :) I was looking for a different type of mounting strips, but came across these Reusable Tabs from Scotch. They are AWESOME! They are specifically for "lightweight mounting" but would be perfect for hanging posters, etc. AND you can reuse them! These ended up costing a little more than the cards (I think they were around $6), but that's a good price considering you can reuse them!
Lori asked: Great way to organize all of those art supplies! Love your wall color, too! What is it? (on our art center…)
The wall color is Monroe Bisque by Benjamin Moore. We have it in most of the “open areas” of our home and I love it! It’s a great neutral color that looks great paired with crisp, white trim.
Do you have any questions that you’d like answered? Leave me a comment or send me an e-mail and I’d be happy to answer! Happy Friday!
